چکیده
conclusions in critically ill patients, the symptoms of hypophosphatemia may not be apparent, but clinicians should be vigilant about this complication during therapy. in cases of severe symptoms (e.g., cardiopulmonary distress, anemia and thrombocytopenia, or rhabdomyolysis), phosphate therapy under close surveillance is warranted. introduction although asymptomatic hypophosphatemia is a common finding in diabetic ketoacidosis (dka), severe symptomatic hypophosphatemia is an uncommon complication. case presentation we report a 16-year-old female child with dka, who developed thrombocytopenia, rhabdomyolysis, muscle weakness, and acute renal failure due to severe hypophosphatemia. she was managed with intravenous fluids, insulin infusion, phosphate therapy, and dialysis. after two weeks of hospitalization, the patient was discharged home with no squeal.

Severe hypophosphatemia in a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis and acute respiratory failure.
Although hypophosphatemia is a common complication during therapy of diabetic ketoacidosis, it is seldom severe and rarely causes clinical manifestations. We report a 39-year-old woman with diabetic ketoacidosis who developed acute respiratory failure after therapy. Although hyperglycemia and acidosis were corrected after treatment, respiratory distress and weakness still persisted. The chest r...
متن کاملThrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in a Child with Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) secondary to diabetic ketoacidosis has been rarely reported and is considered as a rare complication. If left untreated, this condition could be life threatening with considerable morbidity and mortality. Herein, we report a 6-year-old girl with reduced consciousness and respiratory distress with a history of polydipsia and polyuria in the 2 weeks befor...

Background and Objective: Diabetic ketoacidosis and severe hypoglycemia are common and recurrent acute complications of type 1 diabetes and are associated with high mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of diabetic ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia in children with type 1 diabetes. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 480 patients with type 1...

OBJECTIVE To explore whether the carbon dioxide-bicarbonate (P(CO(2))-HCO(3)) buffering system in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in diabetic ketoacidosis should influence the approach to ventilation in patients at risk of cerebral edema. DATA SOURCE Medline search, manual search of references in articles found in Medline search, and use of historical literature from 1933 to 1967. DESIG...
متن کاملSevere hyperkalaemia in association with diabetic ketoacidosis in a patient presenting with severe generalized muscle weakness.
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is an acute, life-threatening metabolic complication of diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycaemia, ketosis (ketonaemia or ketonuria) and acidosis are the cardinal features of DKA [1]. Other features that indicate the severity of DKA include volume depletion, acidosis and concurrent electrolyte disturbances, especially abnormalities of potassium homeostasis [1,2]. We describe...
